Instructor Bio
Tom Davenport

Tom Davenport, Summer Hill Farm owner, graduated in 1988 from Parkville University with a degree in Equine Science.  He is a lifetime member of the USEF, USHJA  organization.  Tom has been instructing beginners to advanced riders since his college graduation.  He has a wonderful clientele, training people and their horses. He has a great understanding of the horses mind and is very patient. He frequently takes students to away horseshows including: St. Louis, Estes Park, Mason City, Nashville, Tulsa, and Lincoln.  Tom is accredited with numerous Championships while riding his own horses as well as those of his students.

We show extensively at KCPHA recognized local horseshows for those students that would like to compete, but do not want to travel to the away shows.

Tom also provides training rides on the show horses on a monthly basis.  He has extensive training with young horse prospects.

Recently we have traveled to Argentina and Chile to bring in wonderful prospects for the hunter and jumper ring that are for sale.

Kathy Baker

Kathy Baker grew up in the Atlanta area where, as a junior rider, she showed extensively on the A circuit throughout the southeast.  She trained with Susan Humes who judged the AHSA (USEF) Medal Finals several times.  In 1987, Kathy qualified for the USET Equitation finals as well as the Maclay regionals.  She qualified for and showed in the Medal Equitation Finals in Harrisburg, PA.

During college, Kathy began teaching riding lessons under the direction of Susan Humes.  In 1996, Kathy began assisting Tom concentrating primarily with beginner and intermediate students.  She manages the summer camp program and monthly Pony Pals meetings, as well as a her own students.

While Kathy primarily teaches the beginner to intermediate riders, she is well qualified to instruct the remaining riders while Tom is at away shows. She is an important asset to our program.
